A Myrtle Beach restaurant was built in 1930 by Henry Taylor of High Point, NC. For 10 plus years the Taylor family vacationed at their oceanfront beach cottage. During the 1940s, Charles W. Angle purchased the cottage, enjoying the sound of the ocean’s tide until 1954, when Mrs. Nellie G. Howard purchased the cottage and began operating Howard’s Manor. With nine guestrooms and three home-cooked meals daily, the guesthouse was a forerunner in providing the warm southern hospitality Myrtle Beach is known for today. Howard’s Manor was advertised as a place where friends meet each year with the beach at their front door.

when boarding your cruise at the marina at station square…

Just Ducky Tours, Inc. (justduckytours.com) operates a fleet of six-wheel drive amphibious trucks, called DUKWs, on land and in the water. These vehicles pick passengers up at Station Square for a tour of the city's significant locales, providing passengers with history and fun facts about the city. After 35 minutes of driving around town, the DUKW heads for the river for an additional 25 minutes of touring. Depending on which tour you choose, you’ll learn about Pittsburgh from a unique perspective.

We reserve the right to cancel any tour at any time due to weather, safety, mechanical, or behavioral issues. If your tour is cancelled BY US, you will be given a full refund or a rain check to re-book at another time (this excludes behavioral, along with alcohol related cancellations). “No shows” will not be refunded and will be charged the full price. As Pittsburgh residents, we've seen these boats for many years but oddly enough had never taken one. Naturally, since founding this site we wanted to change that and finally made the trip down to Station Square to take a sightseeing cruise at the end of peak season. Pittsburgh Water Limo (pghwaterlimo.com) also offers private boat rentals for your special event. Both boats have cash bars on board and catered meals to help create a memorable event. If driving in Pittsburgh on game day sounds awful to you, park at Station Square and use the Gateway Clipper shuttle service to get to and from the game. No long lines, dodging tailgaters, or frustration from the gridlock! The shuttles run for Steelers games, Pirates games, Pitt Panthers games and for concerts at PNC Park.

We also learned about how the confluence of the three rivers and the industrial revolution shaped this city. Gateway to Pittsburgh MuralsOn your short walk to board the Gateway Clipper, you'll pass by an amazing collection of murals. These are called "Gateway to Pittsburgh" murals and stretch along both sides of the ramp leading down to the Monongahela River where the Gateway Clipper Fleet docks.

If you’re looking for a fun way to spend an evening in the city, you can’t go wrong with one of our unique dining options. From sunset dinners to wine tastings, these dinner cruises in Pittsburgh are sure to delight. Gateway Clipper Fleet (gatewayclipper.com) operates narrated tours of the city focusing on history, on one- or two-hour sightseeing tours on Pittsburgh's three rivers. The tour company offers a choice of tours that provide entertainment for kids of all ages. The Good Ship Lollipop is a one-hour sightseeing cruise that includes a clown to entertain the kids. A two-hour cruise, "Sunday Ice Cream Social," includes ice cream sundaes along with narrated tour of the rivers and city.

On a trip to Pittsburgh last month, I took my first riverboat cruise in the Steel City! Our group was hosted by the Gateway Clipper located in Pittsburgh’s historic Station Square. Riverboat cruises are the perfect way to see this beautiful city by water. The Gateway Clipper Fleet is back to sailing the Three Rivers.

Our captains may “wait out” a passing heavy shower or thunderstorm. Coast guard regulations allow only six charter customers on each tiki boat, no exceptions! However, we do have three tiki boats to accommodate groups of up to 18 people.

The Sunset Dinner Cruise offers the perfect opportunity to unwind after a long day. Another popular dine and cruise event is the Pittsburgh Wine Tasting, featuring wines from around the world. There are several safe and convenient parking options available on the north shore of pittsburgh near the tiki pick up spot, or at station square.

Norfleet holds a master's degree from Southern Illinois University and has experience as a special-needs teacher and speech pathologist. But in being honest, I have to say that there are two very different experiences you can have on the Gateway Clipper fleet- one as a resident and one as a visitor. Depending on what category you fall into, this may change your approach to this tour significantly.

Older kids will love the rock climbing walls, video game stations, sports courts, go-karts and laser tag on Royal Caribbean and NCL ships. They want to admire its rugged beauty, seek out wildlife (such as eagles, bears and whales) and learn about its Native cultures and gold rush history. It's so far from the rest of the mainland U.S. that it's become a bucket list destination, especially for travelers looking to visit each of the 50 states. Extend your vacation in Alaska with one of our Alaska Cruisetours, which combines a seven-night cruise with a fascinating land tour around destinations including Anchorage, Talkeetna, and Denali. Earn your wilderness badge as you cruise between the Alaska glaciers, pan for gold in prospecting towns, and trek across the rugged tundra on an Alaska vacation.

Regent Seven Seas Cruises’ Seven Seas Grandeur

A few lines, such as Carnival Cruise Line, Norwegian Cruise Line and Cunard Line, offer 10-night Inside Passage cruises from Seattle or Vancouver. Discover the beauty of the Galapagos Islands on one of our all-inclusive cruises to this ecological paradise. Our Galapagos cruises include vacation options that combine a stunning cruise with a few nights in Quito, Ecuador or the ruins of Machu Picchu.

Discover Nearby Cruises

For these itineraries, you'll need to fly into or out of Anchorage and take a train or bus to/from the cruise departure ports, which can take an hour or two. You can book the transportation on your own or through your cruise line. Additionally, you'll have one day spent cruising the Inside Passage and one focused on "scenic cruising," where you can enjoy the landscapes but won't go ashore. This is not nearly as boring as you might think since you'll see incredible sights like Glacier Bay National Park and Preserve or Hubbard Glacier. Popular Inside Passage ports of call include Juneau, Icy Strait Point, Ketchikan, Petersburg, Haines and Skagway.

Juneau

The waters before you enter the Inside Passage can be calm, rough or anything in between, depending on when you go. Most sail along the Inside Passage, a maritime route along the state's southern coast (and into British Columbia and Washington state) that weaves around the area's thousand islands. Some venture farther north into the Gulf of Alaska; these are often one-way cruises that begin and end at the ports near Anchorage. Nearly every major cruise line has a presence in Alaska from May through mid-September, with some offering sailings as early as April or as late as October. Cold temperatures, icy waters and a long snowy season are not conducive to early spring and late fall cruises. Create an all-inclusive cruise experience by combining our vacation packages to elevate your vacation to the next level.

There are plenty of all-inclusive packages at sea.

Home to Mendenhall Glacier, this is a popular port for hikes by, kayak tours to and helicopter landings on the glacier. The best Alaska cruise ports are also the most crowded because no matter which type of itinerary and cruise line you select, you'll likely visit a mix of the same ports. The immediate port area will be filled with tourist shops and eateries. If you want to see nature at its finest, you must book a tour or venture farther afield. Alaska cruises provide plentiful opportunities to learn about Native Alaskan culture.

Explore the Last Frontier by cruise ship, and you can travel to gold rush towns, glaciers, Alaska Native heritage sites and natural areas brimming with wildlife in comfort, even luxury. Or lounging in the first Overwater Cabanas in The Bahamas at our private destination, Perfect Day at CocoCay. With these unbeatable last minute cruise deals an incredible vacation is just a click away. Most cruise bookings include food, nonalcoholic drinks, and live entertainment. If you add beverage packages and excursions in advance, your trip should be fully paid for before you depart.

Night Circle HawaiiDetails

When you want to go will depend on which activities you want to do, how you feel about cool weather and rain, and the price. Cruises at the beginning (April and May) and end (September and October) of Alaska's cruise season are generally a bit cheaper than those in June, July and August. Combine onboard packages and specialty options to create a uniquely luxurious experience. Score a last minute cruise deal on that gamechanging getaway you’ve been eyeing — because adventure is always a good idea.

The population of Haines remains less than 2,000, according to the United States Census Bureau, and it isn't yet as touristy as some of the other Alaskan ports, such as nearby Skagway. It's known for great fishing (salmon, halibut and trout) and an eagle preserve — because eagles know where the best fish can be found. Look to UnCruise Adventures, Alaskan Dream Cruises, Hurtigruten and Lindblad Expeditions for the best adventure cruises.

Royal Caribbean also offers deals based on departure ports and destinations, so if you’re a flexible traveler looking for great savings, you can plan your next vacation around which itineraries are on sale. Just check your email or visit RoyalCaribbean.com/cruise-deals to stay up to date on promotions, sales and special offers. You can even browse sailings and deals by homeport, destination and season, so you can rest assured you’re getting the best possible deal no matter when or where in the world you choose to set sai. Our cruises travel to some of the world’s most beautiful destinations.

It all starts with the boldest cruise ships at sea — and ours have won awards for everything from world class dining and spectacular entertainment, to record-setting onboard thrills and groundbreaking innovation. These ships often feature complimentary shore excursions, kayaks and bikes for guest use and onboard scientists and naturalists. Plan your next vacation aboard one of our all-inclusive cruises.

Some lines also offer Alaska cruisetours that venture into Canada's Yukon, including a few Holland America tours that combine half a cruise with a cruisetour that starts or ends in Skagway. Gulf of Alaska sailings — especially those in late August and September — can encounter rough seas in the gulf portion of the voyage. You'll find magnificent mountains (often snowcapped, even in the summertime), lush forests, waterfalls, fjords and calving glaciers. If it's marine life you've come to see, you'll find it in abundance, from whales and dolphins to sea lions and harbor seals. On land, you'll likely spy bears and Dall sheep while eagles, puffins and a host of seabirds circle above. Weeklong itineraries generally embark in either Seattle or Vancouver, British Columbia — though some itineraries originate in Juneau.

Note that moose don't regularly show up in the Inside Passage; you'll need to head farther north to find them. On a cruisetour, you'll sail on a one-way Gulf of Alaska cruise, so your cruise starts or ends in Alaska. Depending on the tour itinerary you choose, you might visit Seward and the Kenai Peninsula, Alyeska, Talkeetna, Anchorage and Fairbanks — as well as spend one to three nights in Denali National Park.

Take the entire family on a cruise of a lifetime, where they’ll enjoy world-class dining, unparalleled entertainment, and impeccable service. Celebrate a special occasion and escape on a romantic getaway at sea. Or simply take some much needed time off on one of our award-winning cruises, where you’ll find it impossible not to relax and unwind. Alaska cruises offer a wide range of activities in port, with options for active travelers, wildlife lovers, history buffs and shoppers. Whether you're traveling with young kids or require more sedentary recreation, the Alaska cruise ports won't disappoint.

The service is offered if the distance between Saga ship and the city is over 500 yards. At ports of call, you will have a choice of exciting optional excursions. Saga Cruises company is sending a detailed booklet a few weeks before the cruise which gives the chance for pre-booking. If you prefer so, you can also visit the Tours and Travel Office onboard and Saga staff will book the preferred tours for you, if available. When you are not out or it is one of those lazy days at sea onboard Saga ships, you will be surprised by the great number of onboard activities. You will have the opportunity to join painting or computer classes, keep fit with Pilates and yoga, enjoy swimming, attend a talk from guest speakers.

Cabins

Relax with new and old friends, or look for some quiet time in ships' cozy areas. Other diversions include the beauty salon and spa - go for a pampering treatment or a massage or try the gym - go for a refreshing yoga course. Another choice is using one of the computers and keep in touch with family and friends. In July 2022, SAGA UK marked the anniversaries of Spirit of Adventure (July 6th) and Spirit of Discovery (July 10th), announcing interesting facts about the boats and their guests.

Spirit Of Discovery Review

After having a French identity as Bleu de France under the ownership of CDF Croisieres de France in 2008, she finally received her current name, transferring to Saga Cruises in 2011. A series of refits and refurbishments added new cabins and balconies, updated interior decor, overhauled machinery, and repaired and repainted the hull. A key feature in the boat’s construction keeps cabins in the front, farthest away from engine noise, and ceilings higher than standard heights. Details like soundproofed walls, a domed pool, and illuminated closets improve the ship’s more recently inconsistent standing as a seaworthy vessel.

Single Travellers

It's the place to grab a coffee, cake or cocktail from the bar counter. All passengers get the chance to dine at each one at least once per sailing. There are seven dining options, including three new-to-the-line venues, on Spirit of Adventure.

Cabins are also much larger than you might expect -- averaging a roomy 283 square feet on Saga Pearl II and 220 square feet on Saga Sapphire -- with Superior cabins that would probably be described as suites by some lines. Many cabins also have bath tubs, a rarity on other ships unless you travel in one of the top suites. As Saga Cruises celebrates over 70 years of success and growth, its legacy of excellence, innovation, and customer-centric approach continues to shape its future endeavors. As the brand looks ahead to new horizons and exciting adventures, its unwavering commitment to quality, service, and British heritage ensures that Saga Cruises will continue to delight and inspire travelers for years to come. Chic interiors and specially-commissioned works of art, along with an Art Deco style Lido deck pool, give this ship an avant-garde feel.

The Spa complex consists of Beauty Salon, Hydrotherapy Pool, Salt-Steam Room, 2 Saunas (one infrared), 5 treatment rooms (for massages, latest beauty treatments and therapies). Library Lounge offers coffee and fresh cakes and one of the best-stocked book collections at sea. The 430-seat Playhouse Theatre has tiered seating and hosts grand-scale evening show productions, cinema screenings, live music performances. Spirit of Adventure caters well to solo travellers, with 100 single cabins, dedicated singles programming and organised singles excursion meet ups.

Fares include a high number of inclusions (one of the reasons the line has such a high number of repeat passengers) that create a hassle-free experience. They include home-to-port transfers (up to 75 miles each way for a private chauffeur or a shared service for passengers living between 75 to 250 miles of the port); alternatively, there is free parking for those who choose to drive. There is free wine with lunch and dinner, 24-hour room service, unlimited self-serve tea, coffee and juice, a complimentary shuttle bus service at most ports and complimentary Wi-Fi. Saga also offers optional travel insurance or a reduction in the fare if not required.

All the luxury of a boutique hotel, but with views from your balcony that change every day. It means you’ll wake up in an exciting new destination, just waiting to be explored. Some of the funniest British comedy acts are performed live at Cooper’s, a popular bar on board. The main Britannia Lounge provides a repertoire of talented musicians and cabaret shows nightly. During the day the same venue hosts afternoon teas, dance lessons, and expert-led lectures as part of an adult enrichment program. Head to the vintage Aviator’s Bar for socializing while sipping a refreshing beverage.

"Lisbon and the Heart of the Douro" is a 10-night/11-day cruisetour itinerary starting in Lisbon. A discovery of ancient pilgrims' route is the highlight of one of Saga's holidays - it runs from southern France over the Pyrenees, ending in Santiago de Compostela. Along the Way, visit ancient cities and villages; do not do the hard work, walking in pilgrims' footsteps. Look out for highlights as Gaudi's fairytale Episcopal Palace; stay in Pamplona - evoked by Hemingway in The Sun Also Rises; taste wine in La Rioja's bodega; see the cathedral cities of Logrono, Burgos, Leon. Among the many inclusions are additional cancellation cover and travel insurance, all breakfasts, ten dinners. Saga is fantastic for solo passengers who are not relegated to tiny, interior cabins resembling broom cupboards. There is no single supplement, and a number of double cabins are also set aside for single travellers with no extra supplement to pay.

In the evening onboard Saga ships, while heading to the next destination before dining, enjoy an aperitif in onboard bars, or work up with pre-dinner dance classes. At formal nights (one for a week-long cruise, two for a 14-night cruise) enjoy the feeling of occasion. Later take your seat for a show, go dancing, watch a film or socialize with friends - you may even enjoy a nightcap accompanied with live music in the inviting lounges and bars.

Unlike many ship spas which are run by global spa chains, the ones on Saga are in-house operations. As a result, prices are extremely reasonable -- think £58 for a 55-minute full body massage that could easily cost double or more on other vessels. Additionally, there is no automatic gratuity on top of the price, again the norm on many vessels. And most blissful of all, at the end of the treatment there is none of the dreaded hard sell to get you to buy products, which is also commonplace in the big name spas where therapists are set sales targets. Saga ships are paradise for bookworms and you don't need to weigh your suitcase down with books or even bring a hand-held reader unless you particularly want to. The libraries on both ships are huge with more than 500 titles divided into sections that include fiction, biography, history, geography, science, politics, humour, food and drink, photography.

12 Cruise Outfits You'll Love to Wear

cruise voyager outfit

In my experience, generally Europeans dress a bit nicer and follow the dress codes more strictly. Even on casual evenings, most guests look very polished and fashionable. While I used to go all-out and pack ballgowns and high-heels, I’ve gravitated more towards versatile dresses that can easily be dressed up or down. Perhaps I will curl my hair and wear a little extra makeup on formal night these days. For my husband, he prefers to wear his sports coat or casual blazer rather than a tuxedo or suit. Packing for your sailing’s more formal evening depends on how long your sailing is.

Formal Dinner Outfits

Approach packing for a cruise in a similar way you do a resort vacation on land, minimizing components while maximizing options. Australian brand Bondi Born has elegant separates you can mix and match that run the coverage range. And for men, Fair Harbor makes trunks that can scream “I’m on a boat! ” (check out the Ozone) while also giving yacht club vibes (see the nautical stripe Anchor). Nisolo’s woven huarache sandals come in numerous neutral shades that make them easy to mix and match with cruise outfits.

Packing for Shore Excursions

As someone who has cruised to various parts of the world across a number of cruise lines, I hope to help answer this question for you. As a result, this post will be your ultimate guide as to what to wear on a cruise so you are prepared no matter what cruise line you are using or what your destination is. If you’re looking for a small bag to take with you on shore excursions this is a stylish option that also comes in lots of different colors.

Casual Nights

From casual poolside attire to formal night ensembles, this ultimate guide to cruise outfits has got you covered. Cruise ship attire can be a little tricky to plan, especially if this is your first cruise. Cruise attire varies from a bathing suit & cover up to cocktail dresses and if you’re not careful you can end up way overpacking. With this post, I’ve put together 12 outfits for a cruise that will take you from excursions to evening easily, without stuffing your suitcase. You’ll see that all my cruise clothing can be mixed and matched to create multiple cruise ship outfits from just a few key pieces.

A typical sea day on a cruise begins with breakfast, you can wear casual items like t-shirts, jean shorts, etc. Cruise ship dinner attire for formal dining evenings doesn’t have to be a cocktail dress or evening gown. This jumpsuit goes easily from daywear to attire for Captain’s dinner on a cruise just by switching out the accessories for more glamorous options. If you don’t want to do a jumpsuit then a black dress would also make perfect cruise dinner attire.

Dressing up in the evening isn’t just about adhering to the cruise’s dress code; it’s an experience in itself. It’s the thrill of preparing for a night of enchantment, the anticipation of gourmet meals, and the promise of unforgettable memories. Here’s how to make sure you’re perfectly attired from sunrise to sunset with cruise clothes. This large nautical beach bag will fit everything you need for a beach or pool day. I put together this post full of great tips for packing your shore excursion day bag. It’s a good idea to pack a clutch or small evening bag to wear to the dining room at night.

Additionally, shoes and hats are also fantastic accessories that can really change the look of an outfit. While many Middle Eastern countries are cosmopolitan and accustomed to various styles, adopting a modest dress code is an appreciative nod to the local traditions. For ladies, it’s your time to shine in sundresses, flowing skirts, or stylish pant suits that capture the essence of the tropics. Accessorize with a touch of sparkle or a pop of color to truly embrace the Caribbean’s vibrant spirit.

With these outfit ideas, you’ll be sure to impress and turn heads on your next cruise vacation.
